JimmyRiddle and other projects

We noted in our previous post that we are working on nutsnbolt.co.uk for a client. Well the work is now well underway and we have also started to move on other fronts as well. We have confirmed that nywd.co.uk is going (selling).

Jimmy Riddle

We are working on one site, jimmyriddle.com, an internal project. The owner of DevZen registered this a while back, lack of time and other issues has resulted in little action, but now will be working on it as part of DevZen.

What is it all about, well for those of you who do not know, Jimmy Riddle is cockney rhyming slang for "piddle" or "to have a piddle." In English, to go to the toilet.

If that doesn't give you any ideas, then let me enlighten you. The site is essentially going to be a map of toilets. Simple. We are not planning to populate the site ourselves, obviously we will do as much as we can and I will come back to this in a minute. We want the content to be, as much as possible, user generated. So we will enable a method of allowing users to submit details of public toilets. As far as possible we will work with as many local government bodies as we can to ensure we start with a good population of the toilets. In addition we are also looking at talking to businesses that also have toilets to allow us to include them.

The map will show toilet locations, where possible additional information will be given such as address, facilities (disable, baby changing) and opening times.

We plan to implement the site in stages:

  • Stage 1 - basic map as noted above
  • Stage 2 - add additional basic functionality such as a star rating.
  • Stage 3 - look at enabling site as a mobile app (ie. SMS service or iPhone app).

We are not, at present, putting any deadlines on anything as obviously internal projects are dependant on the paying work load we have.

Before anyone asks, at present we have no plans to charge for the website, we will use advertising to generate revenue from the site. However, if we get to stage 3, that would be a paid for service.
